“Holding Infinity”
2025
This particular doll has become my avatar in a series of assemblages I’ve created. The girl is held tenderly by giant hands coming from the beyond, and is being watched over by tiny angels. She is surrounded by butterflies signifying the fragile beauty and wonderous transformation within life… and all of us. The skull and skeleton emit a delicate patience watching her as she is constantly aware of them… without being afraid. The assemblage is finished in a sand paint … a homage to a giant sand sculpture I saw as a child. The illusion of being carved in sand… representing awe of this magical moment… a grain of sand in this impermanent life.
“To see a World in a grain of sand, And a Heaven in a wild flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand, And Eternity in an hour.” – William Blake
